Travel fares are the thieves to anyone’s leisure. Even though I am already in Milan, I still want to visit other cities in Italy and Europe, but my broke wallet keeps holding me back. Imagine my horror whenever I check airfares and train prices! After failing miserably to find cheap tickets, my mother told me to try FlixBus.
FlixBus is a new German-owned bus company whose mission is to provide affordable transport to Europe wanderers. The company offers over 800 destinations in 18 European countries. The prices seemed too good to be true but I searched online and found out that they actually have low-cost fares to several European cities.
So I tried it once when I had a day trip to Florence with my family. My mother booked four round trip tickets to Florence through their website for only €64—the prices vary depending on the date and time of your travel. As for ours, the rate to Florence was only €28 (€7 per person and we left at 8:40am) and the return rate was €36 (€9 per person and we left at 6:30pm).
On the day of our trip, we arrived at the bus station in Lampungano (Milan) at 8:20am. By 8:30am, the bus driver allowed passengers to board. Our print-out tickets had QR codes (but you have the option to download your tickets on your smartphones) and the driver scanned it before we hop on the bus. They did not have reserved seats so we had to select our seats.
The first thing I take note on airplanes and buses is the leg room. Flixbuses have an ample space for my legs to move freely. During the four-hour trip, I busied myself with the in-house WiFi since it was free. I noticed they had charger sockets too, under every seat.
When we reached our destination, the bus driver reminded us to be at the Florence bus station by 6:20pm. He would pick us up on the same spot where he dropped us off and, again, reminded us to be on-time (because he would leave without you, if you are late). He waved goodbye to us and my feet moved in furious strides. I was finally in Florence!
It was a divine experience to finally get a taste of different beautiful European cities. From the vintage architectural designs to the exquisite and mouthwatering dishes, Europe can always be your paradise. It was really a relief to have discovered FlixBus, which took me to my own choice of paradise in Europe, for such an affordable price.
